# Connect iCloud

> Connect your iCloud inbox with an app-specific password so Billpal imports documents from it.

You connect iCloud Mail with an app-specific password. That's a separate password you create in your Apple Account just for Billpal. You never enter your actual Apple Account password in Billpal.

App-specific passwords require two-factor authentication on your Apple Account. Most accounts already have it turned on.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Create an app-specific password">
    Create one at [account.apple.com](https://account.apple.com). Apple explains how in [Sign in to apps with your Apple Account using app-specific passwords](https://support.apple.com/en-us/102654). Give it a name you'll recognize later, such as "Billpal", and copy it.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose iCloud">
    In Billpal, go to **Settings > Email**, click **Add**, and choose **iCloud**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter your details">
    In **Connect iCloud**, enter your iCloud address under **Email** and paste the password you just created under **App password**. **Display name** sets what the inbox is called in Billpal.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set the start date and connect">
    Use **Start date** to choose how far back Billpal imports documents. If you send your own invoices by email, also check **Also import invoices from your Sent folder**. Then click **Connect**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

For the start date options and what Billpal imports from your inbox, see [Import documents from your inbox](/en/email).

## If something goes wrong

| Message | Cause | Fix |
| - | - | - |
| "Login was rejected" or "Check the password, or use an app password if needed" | You entered your Apple Account password instead of an app-specific password, or a character got lost when copying. | Create a new app-specific password and try again. |
| **Expired** | You changed your Apple Account password or revoked the app-specific password. Apple invalidates app-specific passwords when that happens. | Create a new app-specific password, then under **Settings > Email**, click **Reconnect** on the inbox. |

<Note>
  You can have up to 25 app-specific passwords at once. If you no longer need the one for Billpal, revoke it at [account.apple.com](https://account.apple.com). Billpal can't read the inbox after that.
