# Connect Microsoft

> Connect your Outlook or Microsoft 365 inbox so Billpal imports documents from it.

You connect Microsoft inboxes, such as Outlook.com, Hotmail, or Microsoft 365, by signing in with your Microsoft account. You don't enter a password in Billpal, and you don't need an app password.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Choose Microsoft">
    Go to **Settings > Email**, click **Add**, and choose **Microsoft**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set the start date">
    In **Connect Microsoft**, use **Start date** to choose how far back Billpal imports documents. If you send your own invoices by email, also check **Also import invoices from your Sent folder**. Then click **Continue**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Sign in with Microsoft">
    Microsoft opens its sign-in page. Sign in with the account your invoices arrive in and allow access. Billpal only gets read-only access to your inbox.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Wait for the import">
    You're then back in Billpal. "Documents are now being imported. This may take a few minutes." means the import is running.
  </Step>
</Steps>

For the start date options and what Billpal imports from your inbox, see [Import documents from your inbox](/en/email).

| Microsoft asks for admin approval | On work accounts, IT decides which apps can access mailboxes. | Ask your IT team to approve Billpal. Until then, you can [forward invoices](/en/forwarding). |
| "We couldn't get access to your inbox. Connect again and allow the required permissions." | Access wasn't fully granted on the Microsoft page. | Connect the inbox again and approve access. |
| "Setup canceled. Nothing was imported." | The Microsoft sign-in was canceled. | Start again with **Add**. |
| **Expired** | Microsoft ended access, for example after a password change. | Under **Settings > Email**, click **Reconnect** on the inbox. |
