How it works
Billpal runs an MCP server. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the standard ChatGPT and Claude use to connect to outside services. You add the server URL to ChatGPT or Claude once and sign in to Billpal. After that, the agent fetches data on its own whenever a question needs it. The server URL ishttps://billpal.io/mcp. You’ll also find it in Billpal under Settings > AI agents.
Only ChatGPT and Claude can connect. Billpal turns away other apps and custom MCP clients.
Connect ChatGPT
Add Billpal to ChatGPT as a custom MCP server.
Connect Claude
Add Billpal to Claude as a custom connector.
What the agent sees
Each person connects their own Billpal account. The agent sees exactly the workspaces you can open in Billpal, and nothing else.- If you’re removed from a workspace, the agent loses it at the same moment.
- If you have several workspaces and the question doesn’t say which one, the agent asks. It never adds up amounts across workspaces.
- Only the account owner sees plan and usage, just like Settings > Billing in Billpal.
What you ask and what the agent reads from Billpal is processed by ChatGPT or Claude under OpenAI’s or Anthropic’s privacy terms. Only connect an agent if that works for your company.
Check or disconnect a connection
Settings > AI agents shows whether ChatGPT and Claude are Connected. A connection only covers your own account.1
Open Settings > AI agents
Find the card of the app you want to disconnect.
2
Click Disconnect
Billpal asks you to confirm, for example “Disconnect ChatGPT?”.
3
Confirm
The app loses access to Billpal. You can reconnect anytime.
- New password: Changing or resetting your password disconnects every agent. In ChatGPT or Claude, follow the prompt to reconnect and sign in again.
- Logging out: Logging out of Billpal in your browser keeps agents connected.
- Deleting your account: Deleting your Billpal account ends every agent’s access too.
