An AI agent can be wrong. Check numbers you rely on in Billpal, and ask the agent to list the documents its answer is based on.

Payment status is a snapshot from the document

Billpal has no access to bank or card transactions. It only knows whether a document is paid from the document itself and from what someone entered in Billpal.
  • A receipt usually says paid. An invoice usually says nothing about payment.
  • Billpal doesn’t update payment status on its own. It changes only when someone edits the document, or when a linked receipt or credit note settles the invoice.
  • An invoice marked unpaid may have been paid long ago.
Example: “Which invoices are open?” returns the invoices marked unpaid in Billpal. That’s not an open-items list from your books. Whether the money is really still missing, your bank account tells you.

Ask good questions

The more precise the question, the more reliable the answer. It helps to give:
  • Date range: “in Q3 2026” instead of “recently”
  • Direction: “incoming invoices” or “outgoing invoices”
  • Workspace: the name, if you have several
  • Supplier or customer: the name as it appears in Billpal
  • Evidence: “List the documents”, so you can check the answer
Example: Instead of “What did we spend on software?”, ask “How much did the Acme Ltd workspace spend on software between July and September, by currency? List the documents.”
